Obis of Kimonos
Learn more about photography
In order to respect the Japanese codes, the kimono with Obi belt is worn with the knot at the back. Nowadays, the kimono is only worn very rarely, and mainly during official ceremonies. Obi belts are therefore rare and the most beautiful pieces are extremely expensive. If the Obi is still worn, it is with a Yukata (a straight cut Japanese cloth that looks very much like a kimono but in a lighter fabric). Formerly only worn in the baths and at home, the Yukata is now worn on the street and at summer festivals.
