Wave on the Four lighthouse, Finistère, Brittany
Learn more about photography
The Four Lighthouse, or Chenal du Four Lighthouse, is a lighthouse-donjon located off the town of Porspoder in Finistère. It was classified by its keepers as "hell". The Chenal du Four lighthouse was automated in 1993. On this vertical photo, it is not difficult to imagine the hell lived by its keepers during the stormy nights when each wave hits the building. All these monuments are part of our historical heritage, but also remind us that the men who ensure safety at sea sometimes do so at the risk of their own lives. Whether it is the men who built them or those who lived there.
